Five Tips to Improve your Advertising Results!

There are so many different ways to advertise your business. You can choose from T.V., radio, newspapers, mailings, fliers and so much more; with so many mediums to advertise, which do you choose?

Sadly there is no definitive answer or a special guide that says, "if you have this type of business, you advertise here". Plus, there's no guarantee that what worked for one company will work for yours.

Most small businesses make there final advertising decision due to a persistent and knowledgeable salesman, who represents their advertising medium.  The salesman brings all sorts of positive marketing information that convinces you that this method is the best. Do you think that your final decision should be made with a salesman who at the end of the day really has their advertising medium's interest in first place, not yours?
We all know how expensive advertising can be.  So where do you begin?

Identify your demographic!
What is your demographic? Who do you sell primarily too? Are you primarily selling to men or women? What age group do you sell too? How far will someone travel to buy your product or service? It's even important to recognize the family income levels, which traditionally buy from you.  You may need more help in this area so please feel free to download our free demographic analysis sheet, which will assist you in properly identifying your demographic.

Establish and commit to a budget!
Any advertising that you do is going to require a monthly investment. You need to be committed in seeing this investment through. Determine how much are you willing to put into your monthly advertising budget?  This budget that you establish regardless if its $500 or $50,000 a month, you must be committed to seeing this through for as long as you're in business.  Your end goal should be that you are consistently increasing the amount of advertising that you are investing into your business, as your monthly revenue increases so should your advertising budget.

Research all advertising options!
We established earlier that generally all salesmen have the interest of their advertising medium. The key here is to review as many different advertising mediums as possible.  This may seem like a daughting task but it is sure to get you better far better results than simply selecting any advertising medium.

Establish a method to track your advertising!
How do you know that you are getting leads from your advertising?  Are you keeping track?  This is perhaps the most overlooked part of most advertising campaigns.  You need to establish a way to effectively monitor the results.  After making a list of all the different advertising mediums you are using ask yourself the following questions for each campaign:

  1. How will the customer make contact with my company (phone, walk-in, website)?
  2. Does my ad have a call to action (special offer, discount, etc.)?
  3. How will I maintain a tally of the number calls, walk-ins or website inquiries?

Design a well developed advertising campaign!
There are major companies that invest millions of dollars a year in developing effective advertising campaigns; although your business may not currently be in this position it is in the position to develop the best campaign possible since your investment dollars are just as important as those major companies.  Here are some tips you should follow:

  1. Maintain the same color, text and feel within all your advertising mediums.
  2. Always have a call to action within your advertising (special, discount, coupon).
  3. After your initial campaign design, wait a day or two, then review your design; Are you satisfied?
  4. Get opinions from others in regard to your campaign design.
